WorldClinic HistoryWorldClinic is an exceptional telemedical practice and our roots are equally unique. Our founder, Dr. Daniel Carlin, started the company in 1998. Building on his personal experience as a US Naval officer and expatriate volunteer, our original mission was to provide medical care for the crews of ships and remote stations. One of our earliest patients had a high stakes emergency while at sea. With an email from WorldClinic and one of our medical kits on board, an injured solo sailor was able to operate on his own badly infected arm, saving his life in the process. By 2000, the majority of those ships were super yachts and the stations were private islands, when WorldClinic became the first practicing telemedical clinic, delivering 24/7 medical care on a global basis. By 2005, the owners of those original ships and islands were asking us to broaden our clientele to include themselves and their key people. Over time, this became our primary client base and our original promise to deliver real-time diagnosis and treatment at a distance was now expanded to include global families and multinational executives. By 2008, our members began asking us to apply our continuous care model to their personal health when they were home, as their access to good local primary care was rapidly diminishing. By being available 24/7, WorldClinic doctors were solving their biggest problem: what to do right away in an urgent situation. Usually, our instructions were effective enough to avoid the local ER (and long hours in the waiting room). Sometimes, it was lifesaving (a timely Epi Pen for a child with a previously undiagnosed anaphylactic reaction). In all cases though, our model created a new level of efficiency and accuracy in their healthcare. Today, we field every medical problem imaginable from managing the most basic primary care all the way to contacting a national field leader specialist on behalf of a member with a rare or complex disease. In 2012, we are proud to say that we have a long track record of doing a few things perfectly right, every time. The secret of our success is that we:
We hope we can be of service to you and those closest to you. |
